Their early songs didn’t make much of a splash, but their 1964 single "The Way You Do the Things You Do" changed everything, hitting the top 20 charts. In 1988, Otis penned his autobiography "Temptations" with Patricia Romanowski. This book inspired the 1998 miniseries "The Temptations," starring Charles Malik Whitfield as Otis. It was nominated for five Emmy Awards but sparked a lawsuit from Otis’s ex-wife Josephine, Melvin Franklin’s mother, songwriter Johnnie Mae Matthews, and David Ruffin’s family.
