Kogi Senator Natasha Akpoti Accuses Senate President Akpabio Of Meddling In Her Suspension Case

Senator Natasha Akpoti’s Battle Against Suspension: A Closer Look
Let me break this down for you. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the suspended Senator from Kogi Central, has thrown some serious accusations at Senate President Godswill Akpabio. She’s alleging that he’s been undermining her efforts to overturn her suspension. It’s a bold move, and it’s stirring up quite the storm in political circles.
According to Natasha, Akpabio has gone so far as to file petitions against Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Abuja Federal High Court. The claim is that these petitions were lodged with both the National Judicial Council (NJC) and the Department of State Services (DSS). Why? Well, Natasha believes it was done to pressure the judge into stepping away from her case.
The Interim Order That Changed Everything
On March 4, Justice Egwuatu issued an interim order. This order effectively halted the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions from moving forward with any disciplinary actions against Natasha. It seemed like a significant victory for her, but things took an unexpected turn.

Later, the judge decided to recuse himself from the case. Now, for those who might not know, when a judge recuses themselves, it means they’ve decided not to preside over the case, often due to potential conflicts of interest or external pressures. In this instance, Natasha sees the recusal as a direct result of Akpabio's alleged interference.
Addressing Her Supporters: Natasha Speaks Out
In an emotional address to her supporters back in her hometown of Okehi, Kogi State, Natasha laid out her grievances. She explained, “Justice Egwuatu was meant to sit, take all the pleadings, and make a decision. I truly believed the ruling would have been in our favor. That would’ve meant the suspension would’ve been overturned, and I could’ve resumed my duties in the Senate.”
She continued, “But here’s what happened: as soon as the judge resumed, he recused himself from the case. Why? Because the moment the case was assigned to him, the Senate President filed a petition against him to both the NJC and the DSS. We all know why—maybe the judge refused to play their games, and that’s why they tried to take him out.”
Her remarks didn’t stop there. Natasha also expressed her concerns about the state of the judiciary, saying, “Even though we say the judiciary is corrupt, there are still some good judges. But they often get harassed into doing bad things. This situation shows just how complicated and challenging the system can be.”
This case has sparked a broader conversation about the independence of the judiciary and the integrity of political processes in Nigeria. It’s a story that’s unfolding, and everyone’s watching to see how it plays out. Stay tuned because this is far from over.
