SDP State Chairmen: We Won’t Tolerate Manipulators From LP, PDP, Or APC

SDP Insists on Proper Procedures for New Members
Listen up, folks. The Forum of State Chairmen of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has made it crystal clear: if you're an opposition politician looking to join their ranks, you better follow the rules. No shortcuts, no backdoor deals. According to Naija News, the SDP is not interested in manipulators from the Labour Party (LP), All Progressives Congress (APC), or Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). They're drawing a line in the sand.
This declaration came after an inaugural meeting held in Abuja on Thursday. The gathering brought together the party's state chairmen from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). In a press conference following the meeting, Femi Olaniyi, the chairman of the forum and the Lagos State SDP Chairman, laid it all out. He emphasized that while the SDP is open to admitting new members, the process must strictly adhere to the party’s internal structure, led by the state chairmen.
Here's the deal: “New members will be admitted and registered through the party’s internal structures, led by the State Chairmen. No individual can self-admit or register as a member of the party,” Olaniyi stated firmly. The SDP isn't playing around when it comes to maintaining its integrity and processes.

Controversy Over Former Governor Nasir El-Rufai's Membership
Now, you might remember the kerfuffle surrounding the Kaduna State Chapter of the SDP. They took issue with the admission of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, claiming his name wasn't on their register. But hold on—Idris Inuwa, the party’s Assistant National Secretary (North West), stepped in to clarify. He revealed that El-Rufai hadn't yet completed his registration process. So, there you have it—no quick fixes or sneaky moves here.
SDP’s Stance on Structural Adjustments
Olaniyi also took the opportunity to address concerns about the party's structure. He assured everyone that the SDP is open to adjusting its framework to accommodate new members. However, they're not about to let anyone hijack their party. Here's what he had to say: “We are not afraid anybody will hijack our party. We are welcoming the influence of new members into the party. But we don’t want those manipulators, especially from APC, PDP, or Labour Party, to do a kangaroo registration for them.”
Let me break it down for you: the SDP recognizes that some structural adjustments might be necessary. They're ready to harmonize and figure out the best way forward. For instance, if someone brings in 30,000 new members to join a structure of 40,000 existing members, it wouldn't be fair for the newcomers to automatically take over leadership roles like chairman or secretary. Olaniyi explained, “But we must go with it in a very rightful manner and allow the internal mechanism to decide the situation.”
In other words, the SDP wants to ensure that any changes are done fairly and transparently, without compromising the party’s principles.
Confidence in Shehu Musa Gabam’s Leadership
Finally, the SDP state chairmen passed a vote of confidence in the Shehu Musa Gabam-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the party. This move reinforces the party’s commitment to unity and leadership continuity during this crucial time. It's clear that the SDP is focused on building a strong, inclusive party while staying true to its values.
So there you have it. The SDP is sending a strong message: they're open to growth, but they won't tolerate manipulation or shortcuts. It's all about maintaining integrity and fairness as they navigate the political landscape together.
