Comedian Okey Bakassi Calls Out Nigerian Politicians for Acting Like 'Gods'

In a candid conversation with his colleague, Ime Bishop Umoh, Nollywood actor and comedian Okey Bakassi opened up about the alarming behavior of Nigerian politicians. Bakassi expressed his concerns over how many of them seem to be acting like they're untouchable, refusing to tolerate any form of criticism. This isn't just a casual observation—it's a serious issue that could have far-reaching consequences for the country.

Naija News reported that Bakassi’s comments came during a discussion about the state of emergency declared in Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu. Bakassi voiced his frustration over the way civilians are being treated, with many facing intimidation and arrests simply for speaking out against the government. He emphasized that this heavy-handed approach is not only unjust but could also lead to a military coup if things continue on this dangerous path.

Reckless Behavior: A Recipe for Disaster?

Bakassi went on to warn that if politicians keep pushing their reckless behavior without accountability, the situation could spiral out of control. He painted a vivid picture of how these same politicians, who currently discourage dissent, will be the first to ask civilians to protest and defend democracy if a military coup were to occur. It's a paradox that Bakassi finds deeply troubling.

This reckless behavior will only continue until the military steps in to take control of the government.” Bakassi added, “When that happens, they'll suddenly want civilians to protest and defend democracy. But right now, they don't seem to care about giving civilians a real voice in democracy.”

Bakassi on Marriage: Why Polygamy Might Be the Answer for Africans

Switching gears, Bakassi also shared some thought-provoking insights on marriage during an appearance on the Honest Bunch Podcast. He argued that polygamy might be a more suitable form of marriage for Africans compared to monogamy, which he believes is failing in the region.

In his view, many couples in monogamous marriages are merely pretending to be happy, leading to dissatisfaction and strained relationships. Bakassi believes that embracing polygamy could offer a more realistic and culturally aligned solution for African societies. His perspective challenges the status quo and invites deeper conversations about the cultural and social dynamics of marriage in the region.

While Bakassi's opinions may not align with everyone's views, his candidness and willingness to tackle tough topics make him a compelling voice in the entertainment industry. Whether it's critiquing political behavior or rethinking societal norms, Bakassi continues to spark important discussions that resonate with people across Nigeria and beyond.
