Administrator Ibokette Ekwe Ibas Calls for Closer Collaboration Among Security Agencies

In a bold move aimed at fostering peace and security, the Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral (Rtd) Ibokette Ekwe Ibas, has appealed to heads of paramilitary organizations to work hand-in-hand with other security forces. This collaboration, he believes, is essential to maintaining stability and ensuring a safer environment across the state. Without peace, meaningful progress and development become almost impossible. It's clear that now is the time to step up efforts to combat criminal activities and create an atmosphere where people can thrive.

Ibas Highlights the Need for Peace in Development

Naija News reports that this directive was issued during a high-level meeting with key security figures at the Government House in Port Harcourt last Friday. Administrator Ibas emphasized the critical role these organizations play in the fight against crime. He praised their contributions so far but urged them to intensify their efforts. He made it clear that for Rivers State to achieve its full potential, a peaceful environment must be established. Without such a foundation, criminals can gain the upper hand, and the state risks falling behind in its development goals.

Joint Operations to Tackle Criminal Gangs

Administrator Ibas called on the paramilitary leaders to actively engage in joint operations. These operations are designed to dismantle the networks of criminal groups operating within the state. He pointed out that when legitimate businesses are disrupted by criminal activities, it not only harms the businesses but also allows criminals to take control. This creates a ripple effect that hampers the overall growth and prosperity of the state. He warned, "If people can't conduct their legitimate business as the law allows, then they lose out, and criminals take over. This is something we must avoid at all costs."

Ibas went on to stress the importance of fostering dialogue between security agencies and the communities they serve. This dialogue, he believes, will strengthen intelligence gathering and help tackle serious issues like kidnapping, illegal activities, and communal conflicts. "In conducting your various roles, you must always have the interest of Nigeria and the people of Rivers State at heart," he advised. He encouraged the leaders to work together, share information, and build trust with the local communities. This collaboration is crucial in creating a safer and more secure environment for everyone.

Addressing the Issue of Unregistered Vehicles

Administrator Ibas also raised concerns about vehicles with unregistered or concealed license plates being allowed on the roads. He pointed out the significant security risks posed by such vehicles. These vehicles can easily be used for criminal activities, making it harder for law enforcement to track and apprehend offenders. It's a problem that needs immediate attention to ensure the safety of all road users in the state.

    Road Safety: A Growing Concern

Beyond security matters, Ibas also touched on the issue of road safety. He highlighted the dangers posed by overturned tankers, which he attributed to poor road conditions or reckless driving by other road users. Such incidents not only cause traffic disruptions but also put lives at risk. He insisted that serious traffic offenses must be tackled head-on to reduce casualties and fatalities on the roads. It's a call for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and better infrastructure to protect all road users.

NCS Rivers State Command Pledges Support

Speaking at the meeting, the Controller of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS) Rivers State Command, Mr. Felix Madumere, expressed his gratitude for the valuable insights shared by Administrator Ibas. He assured the Administrator of the NCS's full support in achieving the state's security objectives. Madumere was adamant about their commitment, stating, "We will provide the needed support to ensure that the Administrator leaves an enduring legacy of success." It's a promise that underscores the importance of teamwork and unity in tackling the challenges facing Rivers State.
