Let’s talk about the biggest names in African cinema right now. The 2025 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) nominations are here, and two films are making waves: Lisabi: The Uprising and Seven Doors. Directed by the incredibly talented Adedimeji Lateef, Lisabi: The Uprising has scored an impressive 10 nominations, including ‘Best Movie,’ ‘Best Actor,’ ‘Best Art Direction,’ ‘Best Cinematography,’ and ‘Best Indigenous Language Western Africa.’ That’s some serious recognition!

But don’t count out Femi Adebayo’s Seven Doors, which isn’t too far behind with eight nominations. What’s cool about this year is the addition of a new category: ‘Best Score/Music.’ Other films like Skeleton Coast, Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre, and Inside Life are also in the mix, showing just how competitive the field is.
