Atiku Vs. APC: Coalition Drama Heats Up As Political Tensions Rise

Atiku Criticizes Tinubu Over Job Losses Amid Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway Project

APC Slams Opposition Coalition, Calls It a "Flawed Foundation"

Let’s break it down, folks. The All Progressives Congress (APC) is not holding back when it comes to the opposition's coalition talks. Bala Ibrahim, the party's publicity director, has come out swinging, labeling the ongoing coalition discussions among opposition leaders as a doomed effort right from the start. In his view, this alliance is built on shaky ground, and it’s bound to crumble under its own weight.

Naija News reported that Ibrahim’s harsh words followed the announcement by three heavyweight political figures—Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai—who declared their intentions to unite against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections. It’s shaping up to be a political showdown of epic proportions.

In an interview with Sunday Punch, Ibrahim minced no words, dismissing the coalition as nothing more than a self-serving endeavor. He stated, “A building on a weak foundation cannot stand. So, the coalition is already faulty from the beginning.” He went on to single out Atiku, accusing him of prioritizing personal gain over national service. According to Ibrahim, Atiku’s actions have always been driven by his own interests, not the good of the nation.

  • “Atiku is always advancing just his interest. He is just a contestant. He is not a democrat,” Ibrahim added. “He is not doing it in the interest of the nation. He is doing it in his own personal interest. When personal interest supersedes national interest, there is just no way you can win the heart of the nation.” Ibrahim further predicted that this coalition would go the same route as past failed attempts, saying, “This thing has been done before. It failed, they are going to do it again, and they will fail.”

Paul Ibe Fires Back: APC’s Governance Blamed for Coalition Talks

Not one to take criticism lying down, Paul Ibe, Atiku Abubakar’s media adviser, fired back at Ibrahim’s accusations. He argued that the APC’s poor governance is the real reason opposition parties are coming together. If the ruling party had delivered on its promises, there wouldn’t be a need for such a coalition, Ibe insisted.

Addressing concerns about Atiku’s stance on the 2027 presidency and zoning, Ibe assured that the leaders involved in the coalition discussions are focused on what’s best for the country. He urged stakeholders and Nigerians to be patient, emphasizing that the decision-making process must be thorough and in the best interest of the nation.

Ibe said, “It’s clear they (APC) don’t know what to do with the mandate given to them; instead, they are scheming for the future. Everything happening, from the declarations of state of emergency in Rivers State, to the destruction of the democratic space, stripping Nigeria of freedom and liberty, silencing people so that no one would have a voice. The emasculation of opposition parties is what they excel at—dividing Nigerians and creating instability.”

“Prices are rising, and Nigerians can barely afford a meal. This situation makes you question the true agenda of the APC government. Is it to preside over the destruction, decimation, and obliteration of Nigeria? Is that why they sought power? They should focus on governance. If they had made something out of the mandate given to them, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.”

Ibe explained that the primary focus of all the leaders and stakeholders involved is to solidify the coalition. He added, “It’s not just about one individual; it’s a collective effort. I believe they are discussing what is best for them, so we shouldn’t preempt them. Let’s not put the cart before the horse. I believe the priority of all these leaders and stakeholders is how to firmly establish this coalition to have a robust one.”

  • “The goal is to oust the All Progressives Congress (APC), and I believe that’s what’s most important to them right now, not what has been suggested so far.” With these words, the political drama continues, and the stage is set for a battle that could reshape Nigeria’s political landscape in the years to come.
