Police Force Cracks Down: Tactical Teams Nab Arms Smugglers, Drug Traffickers, and Counterfeiters

Anderson Cooper here: Let me tell you what's going on in Nigeria. The Nigeria Police Force has been flexing its muscles lately, and for good reason. In a recent series of coordinated operations involving tactical teams, they've managed to arrest a number of individuals involved in some serious crimes, including arms smuggling, drug trafficking, and even currency counterfeiting. This news comes straight from the Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuwiya Adejobi, who made the announcement earlier this week.

Now, let's break this down a little more. According to the statement from the Police Force, operatives from the Force Intelligence Department-Special Tactical Squad (FID-STS) were able to nab Haruna Sani, a man suspected of supplying arms to bandits. These aren't small-time operations we're talking about here—this guy was allegedly involved in arming dangerous groups that have been wreaking havoc across the region.

Operation One: Stopping the Flow of Drugs

But wait, there's more. In another operation that took place back in February, the same team managed to arrest three individuals—Usman Yahaya, Joseph Matthew, and Solomon Bala—who were caught red-handed trafficking codeine syrups and other hard drugs. These guys were operating out of Postiskum, and their plan was to supply these dangerous substances to bandits, Boko Haram insurgents, and kidnappers. Can you believe that? They were literally feeding the beast that's terrorizing not just Yobe State, but also neighboring countries.

  • Here's an excerpt from the official statement: “On December 23, 2024, at about 5:50 PM, operatives of FID-STS intercepted one Hauwa Sani, a 30-year-old female resident of Doro village, along the Keffi/Abuja Expressway. She was found in possession of 124 rounds of live ammunition of various calibres, cleverly concealed inside a 5-litre container of palm oil. She confessed that one Nasiru of Daura had tasked her with delivering the ammunition to Katsina State. Further investigations have led to several other recoveries and arrests, which are currently undergoing profiling. The police are urging citizens to be vigilant and report any suspicious items immediately to the appropriate authorities.”

Operation Two: Breaking the Arms Supply Chain

And then there’s this: “In another operation on February 1st, 2025, operatives of the FID-STS, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted Alhaji Usman Yahaya, Joseph Matthew, and Solomon Bala, all residents of Postiskum, Yobe State. The suspects were apprehended while transporting 30 cartons of codeine syrups and other various hard drugs around Postiskum. They confessed that the drugs were intended for supply to bandits, Boko Haram insurgents, and kidnappers terrorizing Yobe State and neighboring countries.”

But the story doesn’t end there. On February 3rd, 2025, operatives of FID-STS apprehended Yusuf Dantani, Usman Labaran, and Musa Mohammed, seizing 10 AK-47 rifles from them. During interrogation, the suspects admitted to being involved in several arms deals, and they even revealed that they had received a whopping sum of Three Million Nine Hundred and Eighty Thousand Naira (N3,980,000) for the last batch of arms they were supposed to trade.

    Police Force: Committed to Justice

Adejobi emphasized that the force remains committed to dismantling these criminal enterprises and bringing the perpetrators to justice. They're not just making empty promises here; they're actively working to make a difference. The public is being urged to continue supporting police efforts by providing timely and accurate information that can aid in crime prevention and detection.

So, what does all this mean? It means that the Nigeria Police Force is taking a stand against these dangerous activities, and they need our help to do it. If you see something suspicious, say something. Together, we can make a difference.
