PDP Fires Back At Accusations: Rivers State Drama Heats Up

Rivers State PDP Denounces Allegations: What Really Happened?
In a dramatic twist in the political landscape of Rivers State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a strong rebuttal to the explosive allegations leveled against Governor Siminalayi Fubara by former Head of Service, George Nwaeke. The PDP, under the leadership of Chairman Nnema Robinson Ewor, is not mincing words as they push back against what they describe as a calculated attempt to tarnish the governor's reputation.
This is not just a political disagreement; it’s a full-blown battle of words. Nwaeke accused Governor Fubara of involvement in the burning of the House of Assembly complex. The PDP, however, sees this as part of a larger, premeditated campaign aimed at discrediting the governor and shaking President Bola Tinubu's confidence in him. Chairman Ewor called out Nwaeke, labeling him a "serial betrayer" who willingly allowed himself to be manipulated as part of a larger conspiracy.
PDP Labels Nwaeke a Pawn in a Political Game
In a detailed statement released on Saturday, Chairman Ewor painted a vivid picture of Nwaeke as a pawn in the hands of none other than the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. Ewor accused Wike of orchestrating a smear campaign against Governor Fubara, using Nwaeke as a tool to spread false narratives. This isn’t just about spreading rumors; it’s about undermining the governor's credibility and sowing discord between him and the president.

Ewor pointed out that Nwaeke, a seasoned civil servant with over four decades of experience in the Rivers State civil service, voluntarily chose to participate in this scheme. He wasn’t coerced or under duress. Instead, Ewor claims, Nwaeke willingly boarded a flight to Abuja, where he delivered a scripted statement written by his co-conspirators. The goal was clear: discredit Governor Fubara, erode President Tinubu's trust, and tarnish the governor's image in the eyes of the public.
Debunking the Assembly Bombing Claims
Ewor didn’t stop there. He took aim at Nwaeke’s claims regarding the bombing incident at the Rivers State House of Assembly. According to Ewor, the truth is far from what Nwaeke alleged. When the bombing occurred, the Nigerian police made multiple arrests, remanding the suspects and transferring them to Abuja. However, due to a lack of diligent prosecution by the police, the case was eventually dismissed earlier this year, and the suspects were released.
Ewor reiterated that the claims about Governor Fubara's involvement in the attack are baseless. He stated, “When the bombing incident took place in the House of Assembly, men of the Nigerian police made over seven arrests, transferred the suspects to Force Headquarters in Abuja. They were charged to court and remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre for over eight months. They were later transferred to the Port Harcourt division of the federal high court, and because of the lack of diligent prosecution by the police, the sitting judge struck out and dismissed the case early this year.”
Senator Bala Mohammed: Misunderstood Political Discussions
Ewor also addressed Nwaeke’s allegations that Governor Fubara had promised to support Senator Bala Mohammed in the 2027 presidential election. He dismissed these claims as pure fabrication. Ewor explained that as the governor of Bauchi State and chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Senator Bala Mohammed is free to discuss political matters with Governor Fubara. However, there was no agreement or promise for Fubara to back his presidential bid in 2027.
He stated, “His claim that Fubara promised to work for Senator Bala Mohammed in the 2027 general election is also a lie. Bala is the governor of Bauchi State and chairman of the PDP Governors Forum. Fubara doubles as his Deputy, and both of them are at liberty to meet anywhere, anytime to discuss matters of the PDP. Besides, Bala has not told Nigerians he is running for the office of president in 2027.”
Closing Remarks: A Battle for Political Survival
Ewor concluded his statement by firmly rejecting the narrative pushed by Nwaeke and his alleged co-conspirators. He emphasized that this smear campaign was designed to pit President Tinubu against the governor. In addition to their criticism of Nwaeke’s allegations, the PDP also expressed strong disapproval of the state of emergency declared by President Tinubu on March 18, 2025.
