Peter Obi Speaks Out: "I'm Not Part Of APC, Here's Why"

Clearing the Air: Peter Obi Denies Allegations of APC Membership
In a bold move, Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate for the Labour Party (LP), has taken to social media to address rumors linking him to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). This comes after reports suggested his involvement in an APC gathering, which the former Anambra State governor swiftly refuted.
Speaking directly to his followers on his 𝕏 handle late Friday night, Obi made it crystal clear that he has no ties to the APC and never intends to join the party under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. "Let’s set the record straight," he emphasized. "I don’t play games in politics, and I certainly don’t indulge in the toxic drama that some people thrive on."
Why Peter Obi Draws the Line at Toxic Politics
Obi’s statement was a firm rejection of the kind of politics that thrives on manipulation, blackmail, and personal attacks. He explained that such tactics have no place in building a brighter future for Anambra or Nigeria as a whole. "I refuse to be dragged into these toxic narratives," he said. "It’s time we focus on competence, capacity, and compassion—the qualities that matter most in leadership."

He went on to stress that every political party should evaluate its aspirants based on these core principles. "It’s not about personalities or drama—it’s about finding the right people who can deliver real change," he added. "This is what our nation needs to move forward."
Valentine Ozigbo: A Case for Fair Evaluation
When asked about Valentine Ozigbo, Obi reiterated his belief that all aspirants, including Ozigbo, should be judged solely on their leadership qualities. "Politics shouldn’t devolve into mudslinging or personal attacks," he stated. "We need to focus on credibility, vision, and the ability to deliver tangible results. That’s how we’ll build the new Nigeria we all dream of."
He urged political parties to conduct primaries in a way that is free, fair, and credible. "Every legitimate member of a party deserves a fair chance to compete," he emphasized. "No one should be excluded because of baseless allegations or political vendettas. This is the foundation of true democracy."
A Call for Democratic Integrity in Anambra
As the Anambra State governorship election approaches in November, Obi expressed hope that all parties would prioritize transparency and fairness. "This election is a golden opportunity for Nigeria to embrace true democracy," he said. "Unfortunately, we’ve seen too many instances where democracy has been undermined by toxic politics and personal vendettas."
He called on all stakeholders to uphold justice throughout the electoral process. "We must reject the kind of politics that thrives on negativity and division," he urged. "Only by doing so can we create the democratic nation we aspire to be."
In closing, Obi emphasized his vision for a better Nigeria. "This is our chance to make history," he said. "Let’s work together to build the new Nigeria we seek—a nation where integrity, fairness, and progress are the guiding principles of our democracy."
