Niger Delta Leaders Urge President Tinubu To Tackle Rivers State Crisis Fairly

Leaders Demand Fair Play in Rivers State Politics
Listen up, folks. The Niger Delta region's leaders and stakeholders have spoken out loud and clear. They're asking President Bola Tinubu to set aside any biases when addressing the political issues in Rivers State. It's not just about politics here—it’s about justice and fairness for everyone involved.
These leaders are urging the president to move away from what they see as selective justice when dealing with the ongoing issues in the Niger Delta, especially in Rivers State. This plea comes after some pretty strong comments from the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, and Special Adviser to the President on Media, Bayo Onanuga. Both suggested that the suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, was the main culprit behind the political unrest in the state.
At the Congress for Niger Delta Ethnic Nationalities, a gathering of key stakeholders, leaders, and representatives from various ethnic groups in the Niger Delta, this issue was front and center. The leaders made it crystal clear that the current situation requires immediate attention and unbiased handling.

Key Voices Raise Concerns
Benjamin Okaba, the President of the Ijaw National Congress (INC), delivered a powerful keynote address. He emphasized that favoritism could spell disaster for the nation's peace and stability. He said, “We've been degraded, exploited, and dehumanized time and again. This isn't just about individual statements—it's a class struggle where the powerful will stop at nothing to gain control.”
Okaba further warned that decisive actions would be taken to ensure the Ijaw nation regains its rightful place and dignity as the fourth-largest ethnic group in the country. He highlighted the importance of addressing the root causes of marginalization and ensuring that justice prevails.
Joining the chorus was Felix Tuodolo, the Pioneer President of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide. He stressed the urgent need for an Ijaw agenda to tackle marginalization and resource control issues. He remarked, “We’ve been too quiet in the Ijaw nation for too long. This rally is a wake-up call for the Ijaw people to reclaim their rightful position. We need a clear agenda—not just for the Ijaw but for the entire Niger Delta region.”
Tuodolo also called on President Tinubu to remain impartial in handling the political tension between former Governor Nyesom Wike and the suspended Governor Fubara. He argued that fairness and objectivity are crucial to resolving the crisis.
Warning Against Political Instability
Comrade Berefa Bedford, the Spokesperson of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), warned that the suspension of the elected governor of Rivers State could lead to a volatile political situation. He pointed out that such moves could threaten peaceful coexistence among the region’s ethnic groups. Bedford urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take swift action to stabilize the region and prevent further escalation of the crisis.
In summary, the leaders of the Niger Delta region are standing firm on their demand for fairness and transparency. They believe that President Tinubu has the power to bring about the change needed to ensure peace and stability in Rivers State and the Niger Delta as a whole. It's a tall order, but the stakes couldn’t be higher. Let’s hope the message gets through loud and clear.
