PDP Loses Land Title In Abuja Amid ₦7.6 Million Ground Rent Debt

PDP Is Not The Owner Of Land Hosting Its National Headquarters - FCTA Reveals, Discloses How Much Party Is Owing

PDP's Abuja Land Title Revoked Over Unpaid Ground Rent

On Wednesday, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) dropped a bombshell, revealing that the People's Democratic Party (PDP) owes a staggering ₦7.6 million in unpaid ground rent, leading to the revocation of its land title in the Central Area of Abuja. This revelation has sparked widespread discussions and raised questions about the party's financial management and ownership of properties.

The FCTA made it crystal clear that the ₦7.6 million debt represents the ground rent accumulated from 2006 to 2025. This is not just a minor hiccup; it's a significant financial issue that has now resulted in the loss of the PDP's land title. Let's dive deeper into the details.

FCTA Speaks Out: Debunking Misconceptions

This revelation came from none other than the FCTA Director of Land, Chijioke Nwankwoeze, during a press briefing after the FCT Executive Committee meeting chaired by the Minister, Nyesom Wike. Nwankwoeze took the opportunity to clarify several misconceptions circulating about the PDP's property status.

  • Contrary to what some might believe, the FCTA emphasized that only one land title, located in the central area, belongs to the PDP. The claims suggesting that two properties were revoked are inaccurate. Furthermore, the land in Wuse Zone 5, which houses the party’s national headquarters, is not owned by the PDP. Instead, it belongs to an individual named Mr. Samaila Ofi. Let me repeat that for emphasis: the land hosting the PDP headquarters is not theirs—it's Mr. Ofi's.

According to Nwankwoeze, Mr. Ofi owes a 28-year ground rent amounting to ₦2.85 million. The revocation notice was officially served to him at his Kaduna address, which is the address on record with the FCTA. Here’s what Nwankwoeze had to say:

"The land in Wuse Zone 5, currently occupied by the PDP's national headquarters, does not belong to the PDP. It belongs to Mr. Samaila Ofi, and the revocation notice was served on him at his Kaduna address, as per our records. We did not serve any revocation notice to the PDP. The only notice we served them with was for the land in the central area. You don't serve a revocation notice to a tenant or occupier; you serve it to the title holder."

Unpacking the Legalities and Ownership Details

To shed more light on the situation, Nwankwoeze explained that Mr. Ofi purchased the property from Wadata and had the papers registered by way of assignment. This means that Mr. Ofi legally acquired the land and became the rightful owner, subject to fulfilling his financial obligations to the FCTA. Unfortunately, his failure to pay the ground rent has now led to the revocation of the title.

Adding to the narrative, Nwankwoeze confirmed a previous report by Naija News, stating that a total of 4,794 land titles have been revoked by the FCT Minister. The PDP's title is just one among these revoked titles. This move by the FCTA underscores the administration's commitment to ensuring that all landowners comply with their financial responsibilities, regardless of their political affiliations or statuses.

This situation serves as a wake-up call for all landowners, including political parties, to stay on top of their ground rent payments. Failure to do so could result in the loss of valuable assets, as the PDP has now experienced firsthand.
