PDP National Secretary Opens Up About Governors’ Feud Amidst Party Turmoil

Samuel Anyanwu Speaks Out on Governors’ Resistance
Exclusive from Naija News: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is no stranger to internal conflicts, but the recent tensions have taken a new turn. Samuel Anyanwu, the party's National Secretary, has opened up about the ongoing feud with some of the party's governors. According to Anyanwu, these governors are taking issue with his close relationship with Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). He emphasized that it’s impossible for him to abandon a friendship that predates his current role in the party.
In an exclusive interview with the Nation on Saturday, Anyanwu addressed the threats from some governors who have hinted at leaving the party if he’s reinstated. With a calm demeanor, he questioned their motives, saying, "Why would they be thinking of leaving just because I’m National Secretary? Most of these governors weren’t even governors until after I stepped into this role." He went on to explain that he played a pivotal role in ushering them into office, signing their nomination letters that were submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
A Look Back at His Contributions
Samuel Anyanwu took a moment to reflect on his contributions to the party. He pointed out that many of the governors who are now criticizing him have only been in office for two years. "Ask them if I ever took anything from them before signing their nomination papers as PDP candidates," he remarked. His tone was clear: he feels betrayed by individuals he helped elevate to their current positions. The National Secretary also noted that several of those who oppose him are engaged in what he described as a "proxy war," driven by his friendship with Nyesom Wike.

He continued, "I cannot jettison my friends because of politics. When we first became friends, long ago, neither of us knew that I’d become the National Secretary of the PDP. And when Wike needed me most—while he was running as a presidential aspirant in the PDP—I wasn’t there for him. So now, what have I done to hurt the party or anyone in it? It’s just mere speculation!"
Defending His Stance Amid Speculation
Samuel Anyanwu is standing firm in his stance, defending his position and his friendships. He reiterated that his actions have always been in the best interest of the party. Despite the threats and speculations, he remains confident that the truth will prevail. "The PDP is a family, and like any family, we have our disagreements. But at the end of the day, we must work together for the greater good," he concluded.
